Top Introduction About Author Characters Anime Music Extra Links

This page lists (nearly) all the characters that appear in the Pani Poni Dash! anime. Character sheets and Designer's Notes have been added to (nearly) all characters. The interviews with the voice actresses for Class 1-C characters, and the male voice actors are listed alongside the seiyuu. However, I wasn't able to document other interviews with other voice actresses, because they were released in the G Fantasy magazine (where Pani Poni manga was serialised). Those magazines are very hard to come by. The interviews here are from the guidebooks and PPD's official website.

Quick navigation: Class 1-C | Class 1-A | Class 1-B | Class 1-D | School Personnel(?)

Class 1-C

Rebecca Miyamoto – Little Teacher for Your Acquaintance

Character Sheet | Voiced by Chiwa Saitō

She’s a half-blooded girl born in the relationship of a Japanese father and an American mother, and she has a big sister. She’s a genius who graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the age of 10. Currently she’s the homeroom teacher of Momotsuki Academy Class 1-C, and she has taken the role as a mathematics teacher.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

Anyhow, she’s the very first character I worked with, so she brings forth fond memories. I didn’t work only on Becky’s individuality and so on, but rather, my intention was to solidify the basics for this anime’s characters with her. Becky is the origin of each other character.

Mesousa – An Unthinkable Creature Covered in Mysteries

Character Sheet | Voiced by Vanilla Yamazaki

The mysterious rabbit that Becky brings to school. Its real name, gender, age and origin are all unknown, and in the first place, it’s unknown if it really is a rabbit. Somehow it can converse with humans. Is it a creature from Earth?

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

This thing... It has only few lines, now doesn’t it. When the people responsible in drawing change, the art and impressions on the character change accordingly. The whole designing process was all about finding outlines that would resemble Mesousa no matter who drew it.

See also Final Episode Interview with Yamazaki.

Himeko Katagiri – Always in High Spirits!

Character Sheet | Voiced by Fumiko Orikasa

Probably the stupidest girl in Momotsuki Academy, and that peculiar mental world of hers is something other people find difficult to keep up with. She expresses her love to Becky, which might be a little bit of annoyance to Becky herself? But Himeko doesn’t seem to notice that at all.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

Her hairstyle is kind of something you’d see in sci-fi works, or how could I put it, her delicate face is shaped as such. It was hard! And since I also wanted to emphasise her lively nature, I held back with colouring and made her eyes somewhat narrower compared to the original work.

Rei Tachibana – Cold-Hearted Brains of Class C

Character Sheet | Voiced by Satsuki Yukino

She has excellent grades, is good in anything from cooking to sports, and even has some unfamiliar knowledge such in things like white magic. She has an extraordinarily dangerous personality of a person who does unimaginable things when money is involved. Is one of her hobbies to tease Becky?

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

I emphasised her sexiness. I started her design with an overall impression of her with a long beautiful hair and slender posture. Also, I made her eyes droopy, in order to make her look a little older (or maybe I shouldn’t have...) than others.

Ichijou – Class Representative to whom Anything Goes

Character Sheet | Voiced by Ai Nonaka

The Class Representative of Class C. Due to how modest and restrained she looks like, you can’t imagine what she’ll do next. She would do unnecessary things and incur unexpected trouble, but would also pacify trouble with superhuman strength. Is it a convenient thing, or perhaps the origin of disasters?

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

She’s the character who has the biggest difference between her original form and current form. At first, I thought her straight face (?) was cute, but now I’ve nearly each time drawn her with half-closed eyes and without a mouth, making it simpler.

See also Special Cast Interview, Cast Interview & Final Episode Interview with Nonaka.

Miyako Uehara – Brain-Melting Forehead of Class C

Character Sheet | Voiced by Yui Horie

The swot student of Class C. She’s the only one in the class who behaves normally. She tries to act as an upstanding student, but even after saying so, she eventually ends up participating in the chaos Himeko and others cause. Maybe she’s good at socializing with unexpected people.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

It’s all about the forehead (lie). My plan was to handle her separately from Rei, another glasses girl, in order to have some difference between them, but tried not to make Miyako stand out too much. There are a lot of times where she’s on the edge, but when at times she’s expressionless, she has a well-proportioned and charming look on her face.

See also Special Cast Interview & Cast Interview with Horie.

Kurumi Momose – Main Example of a Plain Character

Character Sheet | Voiced by Kana Ueda

She’s skilled in sports, but her grades are average. As she is just an ordinary female student with no particularly outstanding features, she doesn't stand out much inside Momotsuki Academy. She has the common sense of an average person, so she sometimes has trouble accepting the nonsensical circumstances that occur at the school.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

I’ve always liked characters with changeability, so I was able to draw her with ease. The feel of her hair growing was something I intended to reproduce since the beginning. To make her look as an active person, I gave her slanted eyes.

No. 6 (Sayaka Suzuki) – Tractable Good Girl of the Year

Character Sheet | Voiced by Kayo Sakata

The girl who has the catch phrase “X of the year”, when expressing something that’s best of the best. Her real name is Sayaka Suzuki, but since she is one of the six persons named as Suzuki at her school, she’s nicknamed as “No. 6”.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

Similar to the original work, my first plan was for her to have a poker face, but as I worked with her numerous times, I became able to draw her with a cute and natural smile. This is the character that differs the most from the original.

Class 1-A

Miyuki Igarashi – Deficient, Sake-Loving Teacher

Character Sheet | Voiced by Sayaka Ohara

The homeroom teacher of Class 1-A and the science teacher, who gives out the vibe of an elder sister. A heavy drinker, nonchalant and whose lack of motivation even surpasses Becky, she’s the opposite to an ideal (?) teacher, making Class A students see her as an example of “Do not become an adult like this”.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

I felt it was necessary to make a balance between Igarashi-sensei’s sex appeal as an adult and her crude personality coexist. Her facial features are from like a beauty, but her face is as messy as a drunk. I think it turned out quite well...

Yuuma and Yuuna Kashiwagi – Leave All Clothing-Related to Us!

Character Sheet | Voiced by Sawa Ishige

Identical twin sisters. Big sister Yuuma is the aggressive one, while little sister Yuuna is slightly quieter. They’re frequently mistaken as one another (meanwhile Igarashi-sensei has no intention in remembering them).

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

First of all, I needed to make even more differences to them than there already is in the original work. As usual, the perky big sister gets slanted eyes, and the gentle little sister gets droopy eyes. More than that, I paid attention to drawing their distinct parts on a whole-body level.

Shu Momose – Solicitude is an Enemy

Character Sheet | Voiced by Takahiro Sakurai

Kurumi’s fraternal twin brother. He’s pretty skillful when it comes to cooking, even making lunch bento for Kurumi. On the other hand, he has a free-spirited personality and often skips school.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

It doesn't appear often and has no quirks. However, he has even more presence than Kurumi, which got me perplexed. I thought that this type of character would take on a life of its own once the design was decided, so I created a simple design to him.

See also Special Cast Interview with Sakurai.

Yuzuko Kurusu – The Hope? of Film Club

Character Sheet | Voiced by Asuka Nakase

A first-year member of the Film Research Club. Occasionally, she is called upon by the Intelligence Club to work alongside Watanuki. At few times, she’s a scatterbrain and says things she shouldn’t, making him get criticised by Igarashi-sensei and others. “Menopause” is a taboo word.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

She has a calm appearance and no quirks. Though her way of thinking is straightforward, which makes her a pretty strong character. That gap of personality alone makes her character special, so I tried to design her without lack of individuality.

Class 1-B

Saotome-sensei – The Brisk and Energetic Youthful Teacher

Character Sheet | Voiced by Eiji Hanawa

P.E. teacher who has a straightforward personality. Becky seems to speak to him in an informal manner, as if making fun of him. Then again, he once said “I’m a teacher because my dream was to become a teacher”, which made Becky envious, as she didn’t have any dreams.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

The passionate P.E. teacher. As you can see, he’s a simple character. It emphasizes his strongness and simple-mindedness. In that respect, it’s much easier to create a character that only expresses masculinity compared to other male characters.

Hibiki Watanuki – I Will Disclose Any School Secret!

Character Sheet | Voiced by Chieko Higuchi

A student belonging to the Student Council Intelligence Department. With the intention of disclosing school’s various secrets, she always runs around looking for them, but it never helps her cause. Conversely, her investigations often end in a failure and she has to repeatedly witness horrible things with her own eyes.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

She’s agile with a light body, and responsible for the action. But she’s a little bit chubby. This chubby figure is a bit tricky to draw. If I let my guard down, she’ll quickly become fat. Therefore, I take great care when drawing.

Suzune Shiratori – Airheaded Girl with the Height of 172cm

Character Sheet | Voiced by Ryō Hirohashi

Massive and airheaded girl, who always looks absent-minded. She doesn’t think about everyday stuff too deeply, and even though she has no ill means, she’s unaware of her strength. For that reason, she spreads misfortune around her (especially to Otome).

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

It’s all about meatiness. This character’s great appeal has been in her tall height from the start, so I focused in creating dynamism toward her glamorousness. Compared to other characters, her breasts, butt and thighs are huge! And thicc!

Otome Akiyama – Small, but Full of Energy

Character Sheet | Voiced by Tsugumi Higasayama

Class B student, who’s often seen together with Suzune. She is relatively good in athletics and is full of energy, but is a bit foul-mouthed, calling her teachers informally without honorifics. On top of that, she’s not good with studying, so will her school report be alright?

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

Since she’s paired with Suzune, I deliberately designed her with a small build. Her face is big, but torso is small. Her thighs are slightly slender. I took into consideration that the more her boyishness increases, the more her charm as a character increases.

Yankee – A Good-Natured Delinquent

Character Sheet | Voiced by Eiji Hanawa

Real name unknown. As you can see, he’s a yankee. Even though he has the habit of occasionally skipping classes, it doesn’t seem out of a bad conduct. For some reason, he uses honorific speech when speaking with Watanuki, and he has a side that stands out as not very yankee-esque, like how his face is scary.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

This is another monochromatic character. I tried to retain the scribble-like liveliness from the original work, while adding the bare minimum of three-dimensionality needed to make him move. Above all, he would be a useless character if he wasn’t the current self he is.

Zula – Impactful and Exceptional Exchange Student

Character Sheet | Voiced by Mugihito

Exchange student from overseas. For some reason, she is sometimes witnessed as someone who shouts around, but inside, she can get very serious. By the way, it’s said that during dubbing sessions the voice actor was convinced she is a man, but in actuality she’s a girl.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

Blockier than in the original work. Also, her face is scary, but dignified. I've always been good at creating realistic characters, so I decided the design in one go.

Itou-san – An Extremely Normal Student

Character Sheet | Voiced by ?

Mob student of Class B. She’s a mob, so there’s a lot of her. The fact that there are so many of her means that she serves the role of an ordinary students that can be found anywhere. But when she appears on screen, her ordinary demeanor is incredibly powerful.

Class 1-D

Old Geezer – The Most Problematic Person in the Academy?

Character Sheet | Voiced by Hiroshi Ōtake

Real name unknown. Homeroom teacher of Class D, as well as the Japanese language teacher. His age is also unknown, but judging from his appearance, there’s a possibility that he was born in the Taishō era(?). Despite his age, he often borrows Igarashi-sensei’s sports car and takes it for rides, which make him seem still young at heart.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

I was more conscious to point out his skeleton-like structure. Since he’s an eerie character, to whom I assume having a strong facial expression, which was when a realistic version of him came to be. It also emphasizes more his stoop position.

See also Special Cast Interview with Ōtake.

Behoimi – From a Magical Girl to a Plain Girl

Character Sheet | Voiced by Mai Kadowaki

Originally, she was introduced as “The Alternative Cure Magical Girl”, but when the Magical Girl left returned to Magic Kingdom, the remaining Behoimi became a completely plain girl. For some reason, she seems to be experienced of battlefield, and has plenty of knowledge about poisons, explosions, and the like.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

I made her magical girl side catchier. Her boots are an original design. I aimed for a beautiful young girl who was fit to play the lead role. As for Plain Behoimi, I made her slightly careless. Not to make her all too proper, that is.

Akane Serizawa – Costume-Loving Drama Club Member

Character Sheet | Voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro

Attached to the Drama Club. More of a suit actress than a real actress, she’s often seen strutting around wearing various costumes, whether during class or not. There really hasn’t been a scene where you can see her properly playing an act...

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

The instant I saw her, cute! was what I thought. I carried that impression directly into her design. Transplanting a hot-headed girl along the lines “Burst of liveliness! Full force of energy!” into the anime was a mission of mine when designing this character.

Misao Nanjou – Lady with the Hobby of Bragging about Her Pets

Character Sheet | Voiced by Hitomi Nabatame

Although her manner of speaking and appearance are ladylike, she has rarely shown any "ojou-sama" side of her. She often brings her pets to school to brag about them, hence there seems to be no appreciation from her towards surroundings.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

I wanted to emphasise her being in a secondary role more. And, then this happened. Her facial features leave a slightly harsh impression of her, but assigning her actual facial expressions made her one level cuter. I pay attention to the significance of her gorgeousness.

Tsurugi Inugami – Cool and Charge of Being the Straight Man

Character Sheet | Voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya

Due to him being a quarter German, his silver hair and eyes stand out. He’s one of the only sensible persons (?) among the eccentric of Class D. In the midst of the circus-like class, he’s often the one who calmly and accurately points things out like a straight man does.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

Calm, cold and composed character with eyeglasses. But he’s not someone you’d come to hate. He's a surprisingly nice guy once you talk to him. I designed him with the idea that by illustrating these aspects, it would express the character in its entirety.

See also Special Cast Interview with Kamiya.

Akira Miyata – Clumsy in Anything She Does

Character Sheet | Voiced by Ryōko Shintani

Motion is no good, grades are no good, she’s a clumsy and hopeless girl, a Class D student who never achieves anything good and fails in everything she does. Her singing ability is unknown, but she has the dream of becoming an idol in the future. Let’s at least leave her alone with her dream...

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

The buzz cut gives her an innocent look, but her body is voluptuous. I was worried she would become weak and be left in the shadows of other characters, so I thought to make her current body sexier and give charming points. It’s turning out pretty good, amirite?

Media – Maid with Unknown Career

Character Sheet | Voiced by Miyu Matsuki

Maid who served as the assistant of Professor who tutored Becky. She later enrolls to Momotsuki Academy, where her encounter with Behoimi, with whom she has a shared past on the battlefield (?), seems like a trick of fate. To come out unscathed from jumping off a helicopter and crashlanding into a boat, she’s pretty durable.

Designer’s Note

by Kazuhiro Oota

Her face is always smiling, and in order to avoid looking too bland, I handled her hair and gloves with rich in flavour. The frilly apron is one part of that. Since she makes a late appearance, I made her frames excessively stark.

Yuka Kitajima and Chika Satō – Class D’s Class Rep Duo

Character Sheet | Voiced by ????

Both of them are Class Representatives of Class D. They sit next to each other and hang often together. Their unfortunate to not have any chances to speak up, perhaps because Class D is already full of eccentric people.

Isobe and Ban – Wanna Have Them Appear More?

Character Sheet | Voiced by ????

Class D students with a thin and lacking presence. Ban occasionally decides whether a ball is safe or out, while Isobe just appears on screen in scenes that aren't particularly important.

School Personnel (?)

Lord Cat – Lord of the Vending Machine?

Character Sheet | Voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya

A mysterious life form that calls himself a god. The colour of his body changes depending on the day. He often hides himself inside the vending machine and heats drinks with the warmth of human (cat?) skin, his victim of this mainly being Mesousa.

Giant Salamander – No Matter How You See It, It’s An Endangered Species

Character Sheet | Voiced by ????

It’s an endangered species that was discovered at the campsite and has since then taken up residence at the school. However, it has been appearing here and there on the edges of the screen even before that. Wasn’t it once eaten by the students?

Taeko – Pestilence God in Training

Character Sheet | Voiced by Hisayo Mochizuki

Self-proclaimed pestilence god trainee girl. It seems she's trying to become a full-fledged jinx by spreading misfortune to others, but that might be a bit of a nuisance. She appears casually in ordinary scenes too.

Ichijou's Sister – Kindergartener who Brews a Storm

Character Sheet | Voiced by Ai Nonaka

Ichijou’s little sister. Since she can only speak “Pui pui”, she communicates by drawing pictures on her sketchbook. She comes often to Momotsuki Academy, but wouldn’t it be better if she went to kindergarten?

Alien Captain and Subordinates – Secretly Monitoring the Earth

Character Sheet | Voiced by Mugihito & Tomokazu Sugita

Mysterious aliens who monitor the Earth. Becky’s a target who’s being inspected as a sample of Earthlings.

See also Special Cast Interview & Final Episode Interview with Mugihito, and Final Episode Interview with Sugita.

Principal of Momotsuki Academy – An Unindentified and Enigmatic Person

Character Sheet (same as above) | Voiced by ????

The principal of Momotsuki Academy. Even though he’s the headmaster of the academy, don’t mind the fact that he doesn’t seem like a person in charge.

Professor – Becky’s Mischievous Teacher

Character Sheet (same as above) | Voiced by Chō

Becky’s teacher from her MIT years. Even though MIT is a university for technology, for some reason archeology seems to be his hobby.

Filming Crew – Daily Hard-Working Behind-the-Scenes Assistants

Character Sheet (same as above) | Voiced by ????

People who are the filming crew for Pani Poni Dash!. Apparently they work for a company called SHAFT.
