It's Always Harder On the Ones Who Have to Watch

病む身より見る目

Idiom Explanation

It’s hard for the person who’s sick, but for the caregiver, who has watched the suffering of the illness for a long time, it’s a lot harder.

Hekiru Hikawa Check
All in all, it's juice in a paper cup. And it was sad. Only those who have experienced it can understand the sadness. It was so real that it made me cry. Hang in there, Mesousa.
Advanced Learning
1. Speaking of Espionage

A gun aims at Watanuki. It’s a reference to the opening of the spy action film with the golden letters "**7".

2. Glasses, Glasses

Rei tries to find her glasses by waving hands. It’s a callback to that gag by **su**yo (Manzai duo of **sushi Yokoyama and **yoshi Nishikawa).

3. A lot of Itou-san

It’s a scene from Class B’s classroom, but as you look more, you'll see that everyone behind Otome Akiyama is Itou-san. Apparently, from all the Class B students, most of them seem to be Itou-san. As you can see, it’s a pretty amazing classroom scene

4. Three Masks

In the scene where Becky takes off her teacher mask and turns into a child, masks and roses can be seen. Considering that the colour of the roses is purple, it’s reminiscent of that great theatrical comic masterpiece. By the way, Becky has three masks here, but **ya Kitajima is a girl of thousand masks.

5. Price for the Cowlick

Old Geezer gave Himeko’s cowlick the price of 157 cruzados. This is the old Brazilian currency (now it’s real). The next price is 40000 pesetas, which is the old currency of Spain and Andorra (now it’s euro). The fact that he’s offering currency that's no longer in circulation, he probably doesn’t have the intention of buying it

6. The way they're handling Kurumi

As each one of Class C gets a spotlight shine on them, only Kurumi has dim lighting. In a plain place, she’s treated as plain.

7. Becky's Calculator

There’s a calculator in Becky's drawer. Don't ignore it just because it has a cute San**o-styled design. Later, when the teachers play rock-paper-scissors to decide who will clean the pool, it appears again.

8. Ichijou's Energy Drink

After the dangos (which are poisoned?) from episode 1 and 2, this is the third installment for the series of Ichijou’s dangerous food and drink. Did Watanuki, who got stuck behind the blackboard, drink this "Legendary Viper Poison Drink"?

9. Rei’s and Kurumi’s Notebooks

In Rei’s notebook is the catchphrase "Asa~!" similar to Muji-thing. And in Kurumi’s notebook are the words “ATATA Divine Fist Secret Handbook”. Come to think of it, a while back a certain weekly boys' magazine had a game review section with a title like this.

10. Girl waking up surrounded by Cats

Cats gather around the girl who has collapsed under a tree. This is a scene from the movie "C*twoman". However, the scene has Itou-san suddenly sitting up, which makes it more like a scene from a horror movie.

11. Itou-san Festival

Various Itou-sans gather one after another. Apologies for the people who had this ending come into their dreams.

12. Making the Punchline Horror-like

Due to Suzune having pushed the pressure point that causes diarrhea, Otome walks down the hallway clutching her stomach. Old Geezer appears there, and for some reason breaks down into particles, then recombines and appears again in front of Otome. Then, saying "I work very well on stomachaches”, Old Geezer turns into a handful of powder and disappears... Just what are you, Old Geezer!

Development Study

**7’s number

This scene was also in the TV version, but it looks now even more truthful to the original version. Doesn’t Watanuki look so cool too?

The Shouting Mu**-bird

The familiar Ya**ji Tanioka's Bird made it to the movie. Does it look pretty strong somehow?.

Who’s the Rat?

At the background during the P.E. class, some burly men are pointing guns at each other. There was a scene like this in one of Director Taran*ino's early films about violence.

Watanuki's Story Guide

Rebecca Miyamoto. The Mathematics Teacher of Private Momotsuki Academy. Graduated from MIT at the age of 10. Why would such a child prodigy come to this school? First of all, can you get a teaching license in Japan at age 11? In order to find out, I, Hibiki Watanuki of the Student Council Intelligence Club, have infiltrated Class C. Ooh, Miyamoto-sensei has just arrived! She’s wearing an unusual hat… Oh! There’s an amazing cowlick on top of Miyamoto-sensei’s head! I’ll now retreat… trying at least… but I can’t get out from the narrow back of the chalkboard...

Voices from our Staff

Tetsuya Nishimura

26 yo – Photography Director

To be honest, my lifestyle has changed since I started working on this series. It has become rare for me to go home (laughs). I'd like you to pay attention to the bonus part at the end of the third episode. Even though the time was short and I thought “Is this impossible?”, I was so much in high spirits that I worked with the episode until the early hours of next morning (laughs). There are many things to note about this episode, but be sure to check out the blackboard scene in particular. It's full of stuff that those who know will understand. Not only the blackboard, but the anime overall is filled with the thoughts from the Staff members, and being able to feel them while watching is the best. Well, “Pani Poni” is already the best (laughs).

Chalkboard and Telop Explanation

Parara rapappappa!

Gain 1 Maho

This fanfare-like onomatopoeia connects to the sound of levelling up, and it gives a good feeling. It would be even better if you could acquire something at the same time, but is a Maho useful for anything?

~KARATEKA~

A game that lives on in the hearts of Fami-kids who are now in their 30s. The starting point is the edge of a cliff, so even one step back means instant death. If you forget to bow before a battle, you die. What a bittersweet memory from the Fami**m era.

You... What color is your blood?!

A famous line from the partner of the Savior at the End of Century and a master of Nanto Sui***ken. If you see people who are so cruel that you can't believe they have red blood running through their veins, say this to them and slice them into pieces.

Endonium Super Bomb

In the tokusatsu show about a warrior of love who trained himself in the depth of India’s mountains, an evil organization was going to explode Tokyo Bay with this bomb. The name of the show’s villain group, **e **e Gang is pretty impressive, but their cycling theme song is even more intense (Can be sung at karaoke).

Cat-Eared Bullet Train (drawing)

Because of its cat-eared design, the bullet train Fastech has become a hot topic (among some group). These cat ears are a device that increases air resistance, acting as brakes.

米15

It’s read as ”Kome Ichigo”. In an adventure game set in Kobe, with no saves nor passwords, these words are hints leading to drug traffickers’ phone numbers.

Ro**’s Sword = Cypress Stick

The weapon that the hero Ro** wielded to defeat the Great Demon King was passed down to future generations as the "Ro**’s Sword." Meaning, “Cypress Stick” could also be a legendary weapon, but more importantly, it’s strange how the legendary helmet Iron **sk has a delicate texture.

Ripple Run

Also known as ”Overdrive”. In the J*j* lineage, the first generation, who was born into a prestigious English family in the 19th century, and the second generation, who hated effort and hard work, didn’t fight with Sta*nds.

Waratte Pon!

A variety show hosted by a certain celebrity, who's also a film director under his real name. Since the broadcast period was short, it seems like it won’t be released on DVD. The program had all three members of the Tano**n Trio performing.

Woah, nice cowlick

Because of bed hair, Becky has a cowlick similar to Himeko’s, which even the chalkboard notes with an exclamation of admiration. “Whoa, nice **” is a phrase that can be applied to other things as well, but if you use it too much for male friends, they might run away from you.

Is Convoy strong or what?

Yes, that's right (looking away). Convoy is the main character of a certain American robot anime. By the way, in the beginning, the enemy boss transforms into a shooting machine. Even the boss becomes a tool.

1, 2, Go! Double it!

In a quiz show ***sen Ōhashi hosted, where participants would bet their points to responders, he would say this phrase during the final question (when all earned points could be doubled). Betting it all on that person, who could give you a chance for comeback, was a basic approach.

Daibukkon

The Great Buddha statue that appeared in the early days of Takeshi the Genius' TV show, which has also been released on DVD, is a heartwarming sight to see. With a smooth movement, as if it had wheels, it traveled around the country on a pilgrimage (also known as a sales pitch).

Time to Dash

When the word "Dash" is mentioned, the Fa**con generation will remember "B Dash." The chalkboards of this anime are filled with other nostalgic words, so there's bound to be letters related to Super **rio.

Two Farmers Spark Revolution

In the Fa**com game about “peasant uprising” had the option of two people (as in 2 players) start an uprising, which would’ve been a surprising setting. Recently, there has been also a mobile version that added moe elements.

Tonight is critical! -By Doctor

A skit from the TV show **wntown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! When the foreign doctor says in front of the brought-in patient in broken language “Kon’ya ga Yamada”, the foreigner gets soon nicknamed as “Kon’yaga Yuda”.

Do You Know Me

Don’t Leave Home Without It

“Don’t Leave Home Without It” is the famous line from a certain card company's commercial from the early 1980s. A certain shounen manga, which was constantly bluffing by borrowing the name of a fictitious publishing company, used this famous line in a gag about translating the phrase "Do You Know Me".

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

It’s the second entry in English sci-fi author Douglas A**ms’ series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Although it was written more than 25 years ago, it remains a cult classic as a sci-fi parody masterpiece.

Make sure to choke your parents before you go to bed.

If everyone crosses against the red light, then there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Both of these gags were popular during the manzai boom that occurred around 1980. Nowadays one of the talents behind these signature jokes is more well-known as a director who won the Golden Lion than as a manzai comedian.

Rettsu toonamento bigin, by Han

This is a line from Han, the villain of the movie called Dragon Burning or Not-Burning, starring B**ce Lee. The correct phrase is “Let the tournament begin!” But is the next fight really on a tournament?
