No One Knows What May Happen Tomorrow

寸先は

Script: Kenichi Kanemaki | Animation Director: Kazuhiro Oota | Storyboard: Michio Fukuda | Director: Shin Oonuma

Idiom Explanation

Even if it’s just a little bit ahead (issun saki, 一寸先), one can’t know what awaits in the path they’ve chosen, as it’s in the dark (yami, 闇). The meaning is that no one is able to predict what the future holds.

Hekiru Hikawa Check
Final Episode!

Since it’s the finale, it has a moderately relaxed mood. Everyone appears so it’s jam rammed.

Advanced Learning
1. Thanks For the Good Work!

On Episode 26’s blackboards, comments from every staff member have been written there. For whole 26 episodes, everyone, thank you for the good work!

2. Hot? Cold?

While everyone in class is one-sidedly saying how it’s “hot~”, everyone in filming staff is warming themselves by stoves or are under futon. It’s quite common for the workplace temperature and the stage temperature not to match.

3. Mesoemon Appears

Mesousa retrieves dry ice accompanied with a customary fanfare. But she looks like someone’s outlandish invention.

4. Absolute Field

Absolute field” refers to the area between miniskirt and over-knee socks, where skin is exposed. This isn’t really related to Himeko’s open hem, but probably a matter of self-restriction.

5. Clothes Changed

The two swapped clothes with each other, but Behoimi, who had worn a goth loli dress when trying an image change as a magical girl, is unbelievably grumpy here. Behind them, Isobe and Lord Cat are having a fighting match. Isn’t it a dar*stalker vs a stree* fighter?

6. Old Geezer’s Magic Trick

Old Geezer thrusts a knife to a box with pigeon inside it. In addition to weapons that one organisation uses to fight with Luci*** Folk, a massive sword that seems fit for slaying a dragon, and other blades have been sticked there.

7. PANIPONI THE WORLD

is based on an existing quiz show. Kurusu and Miyata have seemingly the appearances of both Kinya Ai**** and E**ko Kusuta. Afterwards appearing Serizawa had Trump *al’s form, in honour of the show, but inside it for some reason was C*bra with ***o Sugino’s touch.

8. So Roman Cancel It Is

Zuula, wearing a paper bag on her head, feels like this one character that was seen in Guilty **ar X. In the background, there’s letters for “Ji n g le Be lls” (only the kanji for “g” is big) and Santa can be seen there, as the broadcast day of Episode 26 was precisely on 25.12.

TL note: See Development Study below. Screenshot from the TV release, subtitled by Oyasumi.

9. Life-or-Death Fight With Dancing Dolls?

Becky is playing a famous RPG. Her party members had the names of characters from a romance game that got an anime adaptation. Afterwards when this screen appeared once again, it had the character names of a different romance game.

10. Neko Mimi Mode

The anatomy model, out of nowhere, is wearing cat ears and lolita-styled clothes. These too have become a staple in the style of Director Shinbo’s anime.

11. Excalibur

Alien Captain, who became to have a form similar to Captain Pi**rd from S**r Trek: TNG, has the figure of a knight on the background screen. This is Patrick S*ewart, who played as Captain Picar*, when he was performing in a movie about the Arthurian legend.

12. Those Are Mushi

Hanged banners reading “mushi”, and Old Geezer smoking a pipe. In this world, different from insects, animals and vegetation, there exists the things called “mushi”. Unrelated, but under Old Geezer’s truck are Nau**lus and Exe**on sailing off.

13. Chibi Characters Dancing

Next to mushi (?)-eating Suzune are three girls dancing. Looking at it somehow does make you want to start singing, doesn’t it? Something like King **iner’s opening, or Maho**matic’s ending...

14. NEW WEAPON

Himeko playing with a Gunzal, and a plug **it-styled doll. After her line “I prepared some new weapons~”, weapons with the same style as Gol*ion Hammer and E*calibolg can be seen.

15. Used Until 1989

Rei, who drinks Becky’s orange juice in one go, looks here like the old Cal**s trademark. The design depicted a black man, but then, it had to be changed due to various reasons.

16. Ah, I’m verry sorry, sirs!

Even though she wasn’t invited, Becky wanders to Space ship’s interior. What she says is similar to a gag by Hitoshi Ue**, but essentially it seemed more like ad-lib used when appearing on a wrong stage during a live broadcast.

17. Sorry. This is goodbye.

Lastly, with Hikawa-sensei’s illustration (As expected, Kurumi’s presence is slim), and a group message by each voice actor, it’s the end. Pani Poni’s world returns from anime back to the original manga. But we hope we can meet the anime versions of Becky and others again somewhere, someday!

Development Study

We Told You It Was About Going Forward!

Perhaps included to imply the series will still continue in DVD releases, the TV version had “It’s not over yet!” (まだ終わらんよ!) written here, which was a blackboard message by Series Director Shin Oonuma-san. Having finished the work after completing the Final DVD volume, it has been changed to a famous message from a certain adult game. Were the staff members burned out?

X-Ray Photos

Behoimi’s and Media’s x-ray photos are in the style of the Shoujo Q opening. However, if Beho-chan were to wear a maid outfit, she might as well go back to being a magical girl. No, scrap that, Media with a magical girl look is a possibility as well.

Guard Deflection

In the TV version, Zuula guards from Otome, who’s repeatedly kicking from above, but in the DVD, after guarding she does a backwards somersault. The movements have become more like those in fighting games, but be careful of counterattacks during rush attacks.

Only Peach At Momotsuki

The real-life photo of the juice that was offered to Becky has become closer to the colour of peach-like white than before. Also, Himeko, who tries to move a juice can instantaneously, had her plain can changed into an apple juice can. Do they hate black tea and coffee?

TL note: Peach means "momo".

Time C*oth

Old Geezer’s furoshiki has a pattern similar to a clock timer. Wrapping a thing into outer cloth and it becomes new, while wrapping it into the backside it becomes old, it looks like a tool from a futuristic world.

Next Week Episode Is Back?

Not present during the TV broadcast, Hikawa-sensei’s brand-new next episode preview anime (?) shows that this conclusion is the end. See you again next week at this time, replay the DVD and we’ll meet once more.

Episode 26 Setup Collection Part 1

Himeko Katagiri (Swimsuit and yukata)

Yukata that makes her look not so dumb on a glance, and her cute-looking swimsuit. But as Himeko is Himeko, she also looks pretty silly.

Rei Tachibana (Swimsuit)

With a bondage-like theme, it’s quite an extreme swimsuit. Rei’s figure makes it possible for her to wear it.

Kurumi Momose (Swimsuit)

Cute swimsuit with accessories and highlight on shoulders. But she wasn’t able to show it off that much in the main story.

Miyako Uehara (Swimsuit)

Wearing also sunglasses, she went out with a pretty stylish fit. For a bookworm she also has a fine figure.

Ichijou (Ama)

It’s actually a precious sight of her having hairs down. Pools are supposed to be used for swimming, but is she trying to catch some fish?

No. 6 (Swimsuit)

Amidst other characters’ dazzling swimsuits, she has an old-school school swimsuit with a name attached on it, which is a figure liked by certain enthusiasts.

Igarashi-sensei (Casual)

Despite it being Winter period, she has a summer-y appearance fitting for the abnormal weather of oppressive heat.

Tanuki (Swimsuit)

Her appearance when she was close to Principal. She has a good figure, but...

Mesousa (Samurai)

This is what she wears when running away from the dry ice commotion.

Ichijou’s Little Sister (Swimsuit)

It’s obvious she’d be mixed up in here, but what about her kindergarten?

Episode 26 Setup Collection Part 2

Igarashi-sensei (Swimsuit)

She has a sporty swimsuit, but as expected, is still hung over.

Shu Momose (Swimsuit)

After this, he gets drawn seven scars to his chest and HYAKU ***** to his shoulder.

Yuuma Kashiwagi (Swimsuit)

No doubt, her swimsuit is so more daring from Yuuna’s one.

Yuuna Kashiwagi (Swimsuit)

Wearing a pareo, it’s a bit mild-mannered.

Yuzuko Kurusu (Swimsuit)

Just to make it clear, she wears bikini, but they’re rather childish.

Saotome-sensei (Swimsuit)

Swimsuit? It feels more like sexual harassment.

Suzune Shiratori (Swimsuit)

Micro bikini that shows off her figure.

Otome Akiyama (Swimsuit)

Swimsuit with a design that fits very well for lively Otome.

Hibiki Watanuki (Swimsuit)

With this swimsuit, you can really see how thicc Watanuki is.

Zuula (Swimsuit)

She has the appearance of one that looks like a female bodybuilder.

Behoimi (Diving suit)

Perhaps she’s off to scuba.

Akane Serizawa (Swimsuit)

Surprisingly (?) her swimsuit has a cutesy design.

Tsurugi Inugami (Bathrobe)

With his figure and silver hair, he looks like straight out of some Western film.

Misao Nanjo (Swimsuit)

Rather sexy swimsuit. Just whom did she want to show her figure to?

Akira Miyata (Swimsuit)

She has no confidence on her figure, and gives out a timid feel.

Media (Swimsuit)

Appropriate for a pure and innocent (?) girl, she has white bikini.

Becky’s Story Guide

How is it that even though it should be Winter, it’s this hot~? And with the air conditioner busted, how do expect me to hold the class. So when I called off class, Himeko began playing around in her yukata, and for some reason in the faculty room, gramps from Class D started doing a magic trick show, what the hell. I might as well go to my research wait to read in quiet... or so I thought, but Akiyama, and Miyako too, don’t barge in and make me consult for your problems or anything like that~. And when I thought it was getting noisier outside, the pool is now open? Well, since it’s hot, swimming might just be the cure for it.

Voices from our Staff

Kazuhiro Oota

(Animation Director – 33 yo)

For the final episode, I worked as the animation director for an entire episode for the first time. It was troublesome with all swimsuits around. I halved the design work with Kametani-san. I myself didn’t prepare any direct jokes or this episode. I simply kept expanding more the things everyone in key animation were bringing up. Character eyecatchers appear here and there, which I supervised for the animation based on the rough sketches by Aboshi-shi. I put the most effort into them. Since Oonuma-san on the direction, and also people doing keyframes are the elite who have survived this far, I pretty much left all the contest up to them. I was relieved. I focused on finishing the character animation to be as beautiful as possible. You all have my thanks.

Satoshi Iwataki

(Keyframes – 42 yo)

I was in charge of only few keyframes on Episode 26. There was a puppet theatre scene, and since it couldn’t be paused for lip-sync performance, I had to keep the puppets constantly moving, which was both tiresome and fun.

Chalkboard and Telop Explanation

You’ve got no second thoughts about killing yakuza?

In the popular RPG where the players can make gods and demons as their naka**, during negotiations with demons, players could be asked something like “You’ve got no second thoughts about killing demons?”. Even the heretical yakuza could say something playful like this scribble, but ve~ry rarely.

It’s dark! It’s cramped! I’m scared!

The heir of a zaibatsu, who fell in love with an oni girl skilled in electric shocks, looks like a sharp and collected honors student, but he actually has scotophobia with claustrophobia. When locked up, he disgracefully cries out like this.

Oh Mikey!

It was a program that used to start right after Pani Poni Dash! in the Kanto region, and it’s possible many viewers watched both shows consecutively. Every character is a mannequin, making it an extremely surreal drama.

Your heart.

A great French thief of the third generation had stolen the most precious thing from the princess of a Grand Duchy family. As the princess doesn’t realise what was stolen from her, the Inspector from Interpol tells her these very words. Old Man said it pretty well.

Everybody up! Time for the Furano Avalanche Attack!

In the football manga that made children across the whole country practice the Overhead Kick, this is the signal that a team from a snowy region used for their all-out attack strategy. Mori****-kun couldn’t prevent the goal.

Collect the Stickers And Throw the Snacks Away

(シールは集めてお菓子は捨てる)

There was a chocolate snack with a sticker that was all the craze during the elementary school days of people who are currently around 30 years old, who handled it as suggested in this poster, which made it become a bit problematic. Futhermore, a similar thing happened with an old Kamen *ider -themed snack candy.

TL note: Neither ADV nor gg/Oyasumi had translated this line, for some reason.

So**mon! I have returned!

Famous line from an OVA work that depicted the battle in Univ***** Century 0083. To prove the deaths of many fallen soldiers weren’t in vain, to adopt once again the Ze*n ideals, and to achieve in Operation Cosmic Dust, this person has returned to So**mon!

It’s a finish with no money!

In a TV program about five company presidents seeking investments, if a contestant ends up with no one wanting to invest on them, these words will be their last ones. The value of “Pani Poni Dash!” can’t be measured in money, so it’s unfortunately a finish for it.

Coordinator's Eye with Kyouko Kametani

“(Shin) Oonuma-san’s wish was for her to have a “loose T-shirt” on”. A logo reading “Neko Mimi” has been printed on the chest area.

Coordinator's Eye with Kyouko Kametani

“I wanted to have her in a cute swimsuit, so this is what I’ll present to you all. Here too the highlights are the hair ornaments”. Sandals are also very summery and give out good vibes.

Applied DVD Material Explanation

Principle of Applying Real-Life Photos

There could be seen scenes that used real-life photos in the TV version, but the DVD releases increased the frequency of their usage, and new ways of using them were made. Let us introduce some of them.

Looking at the real-life photos, Rei’s cooking look exceptionally even more delicious.

As said before, frying real cakes would probably be going too far.

In Episode 24, the contents of Kurumi’s SMS can be clearly seen in this form.

There was also a scene where a workplace at SHAFT was casually introduced.

Look Back to Episode 26

In relation to The Way of Writing Pani Poni Dash! interview

Kanemaki We had all decided beforehand that the show would end by everything returning back to everyday life.

Shinbo As a whole, the episode had an extravagant flavour to itself. There were quite many jokes from the original work included as well.

Takayama As for the last part “Sorry. This is goodbye.”, I think it’s really unfair (laughs).

Kanemaki There looks to be a fair amount of people who cried to that part. By including this hook-like part that makes you think “Is this the end?” and then makes you go “Ah, so it really was the end”, I believe we made a very Pani Poni -like Final Episode.
