Poking a Bush Only Lures Snakes

藪をつついて蛇を出す

Idiom Explanation

Just like searching through the bushes on your own, and meeting a snake that you shouldn't have encountered, doing unnecessary things will only bring about disaster on yourself.

Hekiru Hikawa Check
The direction, effects, and colours are all superb. Beho’s Eyecatches, Becky's shriek, on-the-spot filming, club reports... This is the kind of fun you can have with anime! ...Were all of those fulfilled?
Advanced Learning
1. Becky’s Experiment

Becky’s experiment, imagined by Himeko, part 1. The church reflected in the lightning looks like a scene from the horror masterpiece The Ex**cist.

2. Is that Becky’s Papa?

Becky’s experiment, imagined by Himeko, part 2. After taking the drug that Becky herself created, she turns to look like a Papa, who is a gardener and a graduate from the **kada University.

3. Behoimi’s Filming Locations

In this episode, several types of “Filming Location: XX” scenes appear, which is reminiscent to the Family Anime Opening Video broadcasted on Sundays. Here, there are many tourist attractions from far away, but the filming locations are actually from overseas and Tokyo suburbs.

4. In the Vacant Room...

In the vacant room Becky received from the head of the school as her research room, there are for some reason people living inside. It’s an elderly couple on a set that looks like a comedy skit, so they must be that pair from The *rifters, right?

5. Spider Walk

On the monotone screen, there is a Magical Girl Cat standing on the bridge of the stairs (for more details, read Maromayu). In the longer cut of Exo***st, the way how Regan comes down the stairs and vomits blood is trauma-inducingly terrifying.

6. Lethal!

Ichijou appears to be gripping onto a shamisen plectrum... This deadly technique was used by the hero from the shamisen store, a character from the Hissatsu Shigotonin series.

7. Becky Shouting at the Top of Her Lungs

It has the flavour of the famous manga artist behind the “guwashi” gag.

8. Eyecatch

Transformation Belt, Transformation Pose and Grasshopper Helmet on a Motorcycle are reminiscent of Kamen R*der. Probably the sixth entry, the Sky Ri***.

9. RED RUM

The letters "RED RUM" are inserted together with a portrait of a red sheep. This is a quote from the movie The Sh*ning, and when read backwards, it becomes MURDER. It was also used in the recent Toy St*ry.

10. Yuuna’s Audition

During Yuuna’s audition, the members of the selection jury are the unusual kind. For some reason, Tsubasa and Makapon from Momogumi!! are there, as well as other people with an art style reminiscent of the master known for manga with masked ninjas and persons with bodies of iron, and the critic who appears in the aforementioned theater manga. What on Earth is going with this selection process?

11. Characters on the Eye Chart

At the time Miyata comes in, the characters “beware of ichijou” on the chart light up in order.

12. Somehow, an Edo Town

In Research Room’s attic, Ichijou and Watanuki are brought into an Edo Town. Moreover, a man resembling Mondo Naka**** from the ***satsu series appears here. Furthermore, Ichijou’s line “We needed an informer” originates from His***** series, where was an informer at one point.

13. Donguri?

Just why “donguri”? More importantly, why only “gu” from “donguri” is written big should be noted. There used to be a curry commercial that advertised how big the "gu" was.

Development Study

Looking Closely...

Episode 6 has only few different aspects. At first glance, it looks similar to the TV version, but the "gu" is highlighted in red. The big "gu" makes it easier to understand, don’t you think?

Rei's Story Guide

Apparently, Becky got a vacant classroom at school for her personal use. I don’t know what type of research she’ll do, something that suits for her as a super genius? Himeko seems to be having a delusion that Becky is conducting some shady experiment in the research room... And so, we decided to help clean the empty classroom. Even though the room was very weird and there were strange monsters coming out from a mysterious door, we managed to finish cleaning up. Becky, now that you have a research room in use, wouldn’t it be great if you could use the brilliant head of yours, and help out answering to the problems students are facing?

Voices from our Staff

Tatsuya Oishi

Opening Director, Concept Design Cooperation etc

I can't discuss my production plan without mentioning Sakai-san, who worked as the digital operator. I worked with Sakai for the first time on our previous project (Tsukuyomi), and he completed my unreasonable requests with amazing skill. I’m truly thankful for him. From there on, things kept escalating, likewise with Pani Poni Dash! openings and here with episode 6. The photo collage in episode 6 was really fun. The design of the poster for Becky’s Consultation Room was so interesting that Sakai and I were glued in front of our computer the whole time. I have a lot of my thoughts to say during the work progress, but if I say something undesirable, it ends up dragging the schedule and causing annoyance for the staff. I apologize for borrowing the magazine pages. I’m truly sorry. I'll try my best not to worry about you at all.
